TRS Training is now accepting enrolments for its five-day Category C to CE HGV course, a practical programme for existing Category C licence holders ready to upgrade to Class 1.
St Helens, United Kingdom, October 28, 2026 /PressCable/ -- TRS Training has announced open places on its Category C to CE programme, a five-day course for drivers who hold a Category C (Class 2) licence and want to qualify for Category CE (Class 1) articulated vehicle operation. The training leads to the DVSA practical driving assessment and is delivered nationwide by qualified HGV instructors on a one-to-one basis.

The programme opens as UK haulage operators continue to report difficulty filling HGV driving roles. According to the Department for Transport’s Heavy Goods Vehicle Driver Vacancies report for 2024, 24% of HGV businesses reported driver vacancies in the fourth quarter of 2024, with better pay or benefits elsewhere, existing drivers leaving the industry, and retirement among the most commonly cited reasons for those vacancies.
For existing Category C drivers, TRS Training describes the move to Category CE as a step towards broader professional opportunities. The higher entitlement allows drivers to operate articulated HGVs up to 44 tonnes, which the provider says can open access to roles including trunking driver, retail distribution driver, container driver, and refrigerated transport driver.
TRS Training structures the course around four days of practical instruction, followed by testing on the fifth day. Sessions cover vehicle and trailer checks, coupling and uncoupling, reversing, manoeuvring, and driving in a range of road environments, including urban, rural and motorway conditions.

Learners also develop the judgement needed to manage articulation, vehicle swing and off-tracking when operating larger combinations. According to TRS Training, the aim is to build both test readiness and the practical competence required for day-to-day articulated vehicle operation.
The DVSA assessment includes vehicle safety questions, a Module 3A reversing exercise, and a Module 3B on-road practical driving test. Candidates progress to assessment only when their instructor considers them ready, and the cost of the course is £1,700, which includes VAT and DVSA test fees.
The course is intended for drivers who hold a full Category C (Class 2) HGV licence and an HGV provisional licence with C+E provisional entitlement, and who meet DVLA medical standards. Employers can also use the programme to upskill drivers who need Category CE entitlement for roles involving articulated vehicles.
Successful candidates can progress into Class 1 HGV work across areas such as trunking, retail distribution, container transport, refrigerated haulage and other logistics operations.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) highlighted the challenge to turn advances in digitalization across airline retailing, payments, and digital identity into even better passenger journeys and a more efficient, financially resilient industry. “Today, a traveler can use AI to plan a trip. They can pay with a digital wallet and use biometrics for a more seamless journey at the airport. The challenge now is realizing the value that these innovations can create to make travel more efficient and improve financial resilience,” said Sandrine Le Borgne, IATA Interim Director General, CFO and Senior Vice President, Corporate Services, speaking at the opening of the IATA World Financial Symposium and World Passenger Symposium in Macao.
Visitors to the NewMedia Creative Technology Studiostand at IMEX America 2026 could choose a quiz topic, ask about the company, receive a compliment or invite a prediction about their future. Each choice opened a conversation with one of four animated digital characters in AI HOST, a format the studio develops for events and brand activations. A 12 ft high LED wall gave the chosen character a visible presence on the show floor. A touchscreen console and microphone provided the point of interaction. Participants entered their name before speaking, allowing the character to address them directly, and could ask follow-up questions as the conversation developed.
