Get to know Pathologist Dr. Sandra L. Aponte, who serves patients in Florida.
New York City, New York Aug 1, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - Dr. Aponte served as Cytopathology Director of the laboratory serving the prestigious gynecology and obstetrics company Women's Care from 2020 to 2023. Currently she's the Lead Pathologist of Quality Control.
"I was raised by a single mother in an educated, yet middle class family, enduring difficult financial times. The eldest of four children, many responsibilities fell on my shoulders as a child. After graduating from the Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine in 1988, she moved to New York City and embarked on an internship in a Surgical Year at Northwell/Staten Island University Hospital. Her passion for pathology led her to pursue a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology, which she successfully completed at Mount Sinai Hospital/Beth Israel from 1989 to 1993 in New York City.
In addition to her medical training, Dr. Aponte holds a Master of Business Administration degree from New York Institute of Technology, showcasing her commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
With an unwavering commitment to excellence, she became board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology & cytopathology by the American Board of Pathology (ABPath). The mission of the ABPath is to promote the health of the public and advance the practice and science of pathology by establishing voluntary certification standards and assessing the qualifications of those seeking to practice the specialty of pathology.
Among her professional affiliations, Dr. Aponte is an active member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology, and the College of American Pathologists.
Pathology is a branch of medical science that involves the study and diagnosis of disease through the examination of surgically removed organs, tissues, body fluids, and in some cases, the entire body. Pathologists are physicians who specialize in the diagnosis and management of diseases through laboratory methods.
Attributing her success to perseverance and hard work, Dr. Aponte has been the recipient of numerous accolades throughout her career, including a CAP Scholarship for Spokesperson School, the Janet M. Glasgow Achievement Award through the American Medical Women's Association, and several prizes for her scholarly research and writing. She is the author of eight journal articles, some of which have been included in the American Journal of Clinical Pathology, the American College of Physicians, and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.
Outside of the office, Dr. Aponte's interests include: human traffic ministry, animal rescue and advocacy and talent/modeling work. Her favorite professional publication is the American Journal of Surgical Pathology.
