R&R Motherhood, now based in Arlington after relocating from California, offers in-home and virtual lactation care across Greater Boston. Led by an IBCLC, the practice targets the gap between how many Americans start breastfeeding and how many continue.
Arlington, Massachusetts, United States, October 29, 2026 -- Most American families begin breastfeeding, but far fewer continue. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 86.1% of infants born in 2023 were ever breastfed. Only 29.8% were exclusively breastfed through six months, based on 2024-2025 survey data.

The gap exists in Massachusetts too. In a June 2024 report, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health found that 90.1% of the state's infants were fed breast milk at some point, yet only 34.4% were exclusively breastfed at six months. Many families start strong, and then support runs out.
The drop-off often starts in the first weeks at home. Latch pain, low supply, pumping questions, and bottle refusal can surface once hospital care ends. New parents are recovering from birth, sleeping in short stretches, and making feeding decisions around the clock. Leaving the house with a newborn can feel impossible, and a waiting room is a hard place for a hungry baby.
The pressure builds again when parents plan a return to work. A baby who refuses a bottle can complicate childcare arrangements and force rushed decisions about feeding. Without hands-on guidance, small problems can turn into early weaning that many parents did not plan.
To close that gap, R&R Motherhood is now based in Arlington, Massachusetts, after relocating from California, and serves families across Greater Boston. The practice is led by Aarani Montanari, an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), and offers help before birth and after.
Families can seek help before or after birth with latch, milk supply, pumping, bottles, mastitis, returning to work, and weaning. The in-home model reflects the realities of early parenthood. The consultant sees the family's actual chair, pillows, and pump and builds a plan that works in the home. Partners can join the visit, which helps when they'll support overnight feeds.
Booking follows three steps. Families check insurance coverage or review self-pay options, book a consultation that fits their needs, and receive personalized feeding support for themselves and their baby. Parents who are unsure where to start can schedule a brief introductory call.
Montanari regularly visits families in Lexington, Belmont, Medford, Winchester, Somerville, Cambridge, Newton, and Watertown, while telehealth makes it possible to work with a lactation consultant anywhere in the Greater Boston area. Her own experience shaped the practice. After the birth of her son in 2021, she struggled with breastfeeding and with postpartum anxiety and depression, and an IBCLC helped her reach her breastfeeding goals. According to the practice website, she knows how much difference support can make during this vulnerable transition into motherhood and wants families to know she is there for them every step of the way.
