Cyber Security Specialists DigitalXRAID Releases Guide on IT Health Checks

Sep 27, 2022

The new threat landscape created by remote and hybrid working patterns demands increased vigilance and security awareness by organisations around the world.

Doncaster,United Kingdom - September 27, 2022 /PressCable/ —

The post-pandemic world has changed a lot of things, not least the global security landscape. One clear example is the massive change in our working patterns. In fact a recent report from Gene Marks in The Guardian newspaper, issued a stark warning about the increased vulnerability that companies face from the explosion in home and hybrid working habits.

“If you’re running a small business you need to employ an IT firm to keep a close eye on each of your remote employees,” he writes, “That firm needs to make sure that your remote workers are running the most recent operating systems, [and] have downloaded the most recent security software.”

These security risks are magnified by the growing popularity of employees using mobile devices instead of computers. It’s clear there’s now an urgent need for companies to implement regular IT health checks (ITHC) in order to monitor and protect against cyber attacks arising from both outside as well as inside the organisation, according to cyber security company, DigitalXRAID.

Security health checks are not a new thing. The difference now is that they cover a much broader scope of activities and threats. The use of cloud-based applications from third-party suppliers, for example, adds a whole new dimension to the security landscape. As does the increased vulnerability that comes from unpatched, poorly secured home network systems used by remote staff and senior executives.

Fortunately there are official steps being taken to push companies along the road of improved security. The ISO 27001 data security audit standard is proving to be a valuable marker towards the implementation of a robust security framework. Certified agencies such as DigitalXRAID are increasingly being called upon to help organisations qualify for this important accreditation, which is a valuable first step.

This is why DigitalXRAID has released a guide about the benefits of IT health checks, and the various steps involved in this process. According to the SOC provider, an ITHC ensures that best practices are being followed within a company’s computer structure.

At the end of the day, a key driver behind keeping businesses safe is the understanding that security involves everyone in the organisation. Not just the technical department, or those dealing directly with secure data, but all personnel—from receptionists to the CEO.

According to data from Cybersecurity Ventures, cybercrime costs are predicted to rise to $10.5 trillion USD annually by 2025, involving not just loss of data, but destroyed productivity, intellectual property theft, and the rampant spread of ransomware.

Despite these figures, research released last week from the Insurance Board of Canada found that only 34% of staff at small and medium sized businesses said they’d received any cyber security training.
