British Face Clinic Highlights Rhinoplasty Safety Following World Anaesthesia Day

Oct 28, 2026

Following the Royal College of Anaesthetists' World Anaesthesia Day statement on 16 October 2026, British Face Clinic has set out how anaesthesia, airway assessment and recovery factor into its rhinoplasty consultations.

London, United Kingdom, October 28, 2026 -- British Face Clinic has issued commentary on the anaesthetic and recovery considerations involved in rhinoplasty surgery, following the Royal College of Anaesthetists' statement marking World Anaesthesia Day on 16 October 2026. The Royal College's statement addressed patient care before, during and after surgical procedures, including preparation, risk assessment and recovery.

Rhinoplasty is a complex, invasive surgical procedure carried out under general anaesthesia, and the clinic treats the anaesthetic process as a key part of patient preparation rather than a routine formality. Patients considering rhinoplasty are assessed individually, with surgical planning that takes into account both the desired facial outcome and the structure of the nasal airway before any procedure is scheduled.

Mr Mrinal Supriya, Consultant ENT and Facial Surgeon, considers airway function alongside the cosmetic aims of surgery. Preservation rhinoplasty retains much of the natural nasal bridge while reshaping or lowering it through adjustments to bone and cartilage beneath the bridge. Preserving the surface framework does not mean that no tissue is removed, and the technique remains invasive surgery. Surgical planning considers individual anatomy, facial proportions and ethnic background rather than a standardised result. The clinic's page on closed rhinoplasty surgery sets out one of the access techniques used, in which incisions are made inside the nostrils rather than externally.

Recovery from rhinoplasty is not immediate, and all surgery carries risks that must be discussed during consultation. Swelling and bruising are expected after surgery, and swelling in particular can persist for up to a year as the tissues settle into their final form. Outcomes vary between patients, and the clinic does not present any single result as guaranteed, instead describing its aim as refinement that respects a patient's existing facial anatomy.

"Anaesthesia and recovery are not side issues to rhinoplasty, they are part of the same conversation as the surgery itself," said Mr Mrinal Supriya, Consultant ENT and Facial Surgeon. "Patients need a clear understanding of what general anaesthesia involves, what the healing process looks like over the following months, and how any airway considerations have been factored into their individual plan."

Further detail on the procedures offered by the practice, including consultation and planning processes, is available through British Face Clinic, which operates from locations in London, Northampton and Milton Keynes.
